Martin Luther King Day -- Volunteer Opportunities On January 18, 2010—Martin Luther King, Jr. Day—a day of service is being held in Keene. The Day of Service is a way to pay homage to our nation’s civil rights heroes: Martin Luther King, Jr. and Jonathan Daniels, a follower of Dr. King and a Keene native. Both heroes died working toward a dream of equality and believing in a nation of justice and freedom for all.
Volunteers can register for service projects at St. James Episcopal Church; registration begins at 8:00 a.m. on January 18, 2010. At that time, volunteers will be matched to a service project. Although not mandatory, volunteers are encouraged to preregister by emailing Vincent Pignatiello or Amithea Love, co-chairs of this committee, at SERD.ane@antioch.edu
The volunteer opportunities available on that day will benefit non-profit agencies and individuals. Some examples are: painting, organizing offices (requires lifting), splitting wood, washing dairy barns, clearing brush and repairing walls. There may also be some filing and paperwork.
The Day of Service is being organized and coordinated by the Support Group
for Ethnic and Racial Diversity (SERD)(http://www. |
